Got some good ol' standbys-- they don' come much older than Detective Comics #844-- but the last year or so has been newly entertaining Batman reading; and this's the Batman book for me.
Jonah Hex #31 -- JH has made good on nearly three years' worth of tight writing, done-in-one style for the most part, and equally nice art.
Dock Walloper #4--has its unusual (for comics) setting, (prohibition) and unusual character, and makes for a good, gangsters story.
Dead Space #3 -- has Ben Templesmith artwork and a paranoia building story of a space disease approaching Earth.
Three new titles this week I'm a'bettin' on:
Tor #1 -- a favorite man vs. dinosaur setting from my long-ago youth, revived by its creator, Joe Kubert. Alas, it's 'only' a six-issue series.
House of Mystery #1 -- from Fables makers Sturges and Willingham, about a house where some come and go, and some never leave, and all have a story to unfold.
Man With No Name #1, $3.50 -- it looks really purty; hope it reads as well; guilty pleasure, guilty pleasure: Ahm jist a fan, Ah reckon. Kinda costly, though; hopin' it's worth its price.
More high-priced comics...
Jack Staff #16, $3.50 - Paul Grist's proven his worth in top quality entertainment for me and I may grumble at the cover price, but I know this title's worth my time, attention, and coin. Superheroes, mystics, undercover agents, Becky Burdock--Vampire Reporter, wit and humor and great graphics.
Conan #50, $4.99 - last issue of 'the old series' with 40 pages of new material and 20 pages of an old reprint; looks good, & has read well in the past. 60 pages at $5 is pretty fair market value, especially given this title's history of good reading.
If you don't already have the comics--
Amelia Rules SC Vol. 4 When The Past Is A Present, $11.99 -
is terrific. If it's not the best comic available, it's definitely there in the top group. Beautiful, moving writing, clever (sometimes fiendishly clever) artwork, and down to earth realistic subject matter handled subtly and often poignantly.
Color of Rage TP Vol. 1 , (400 pages) $14.95 - taking a chance on author Kazuo Koike's name, he of Lone Wolf and several other historical manga I've very much enjoyed. The drawing, by Seisaku Kano is realistic and moody rather than bigeyed silly and speed-lined.
Hope you find plenty stuff to enjoy, yourself,
Matt
