Hybrid Chronicles:
Alpha

Prologue

“ Doctor, the computer is finished. The subject seems stable. What should we do now?”

“ Nothing. We have to wait for approval from the Pentagon.”

“ But this is your project, your idea. Why do they have a say ?”

“ Without them, there is no project. They have funded every gene and every splice.”

“ Okay, okay. Jeez, sorry I asked.”

“ No, it was a fair question. We have worked side by side on this for over a year. This is just as

important to you as it is to me.”

The two occupants of the very plain looking laboratory are working on a top secret project for the

government. A weapon that is unlike any other. Biologically, it is far more dangerous then a virus or

contaminant , but far less conspicuous. If the project is approved, the need for soldiers on the battlefield

would be defunct. No more men would have to die needlessly. The Doctor was signed on for his extensive

knowledge of genetics, while his partner is an expert with computers. The two have been working together

for a year and a half, and were become quite close, though their relationship never went beyond friendship.

They never got the chance to experiment with each other. Their lives were cut short.

“ I am sorry, you must be destroyed.” the doctor said to a glowing container. A face appeared from

out of the glowing fluid within the container. It looked at the Doctor, who stepped back in fear.

“ Gloria, cut the life support! Hurry!” The command came to late, because as the final word was

Uttered, the glass shattered. A horrid creature stepped out onto glass shards. It’s form seemed incomplete,

almost as if it were still developing. It moved to the Doctor, whose body was bleeding from being caught in

the shower of broken glass.

“ Doctor, you created me for a purpose. I will carry out that purpose.” the creature said in a raspy .

voice. The creature picked up the nearly dead Doctor, and bit him. Seeming to attempt to suck the

remaining life from him. The creature’s skin began to come to life, rippling. The very texture was changing,

becoming something different then it was. It now looked as if it were part human, something it definitely

wasn’t. The creature investigated the body of Gloria, the nurse. She had apparently died from blood loss.

After hunting down and assimilating the DNA of every human in the building, the creature made it’s way

towards the border of the complex on which it was created.
Encountering only a small number of guards, as there was no need for weapons in a laboratory

complex, the creature made his escape easily. His strength was double that of a normal man, much more

powerful then the limited guards. His agility, a product of his creation, allowed for quick kills and

assimilations. Once at the fence, he jumped up to the top, and then over. He quickly disappeared into the

surrounding forest. Thus began a long list of unexplained deaths among predatory animals.

Chapter One

My name is Treze, a Hybrid. Well, my father was one, my mother was human. I suppose that you

are wondering what a Hybrid is. Well, I can tell you that and explain where we came from.

The Hybrid were man’s answer to dispensable soldiers during war time. We were created from

combining human DNA with animal DNA, mostly mammalian as they were most compatible. The scientists

were able to get the results they wanted by tweaking specific attributes of the animal DNA, whether it be

agility or heightened senses. They blanked out all of the human will, creating programmable fighters.

Fighters that were capable of doing whatever they were told to do.

For twenty years, the Hybrid were used at ever skirmish and battle that the humans felt was

necessary. Through the years, glitches began to make their presence known. Hesitation, something they

were not supposed to show, was one of the major glitches. Apparent emotions were appearing, causing

problems within the blank mind. Eventually, free will was evident. That was a problem. Though they were

completing missions, they were showing guilt and arguing their orders. As they were meant to be

disposable, the program was scrapped. But there was a problem, some hybrid had escaped while in the field.

Being what they were, they were able to disappear in the wild. They were assumed dead.

Humans continued to fight their battles, the weapons getting more and more dangerous.

Eventually, the fighting nearly caused the destruction of the human race. Bombs more powerful then any

created before, were dropped on the major cities of the world. The day this happened, more then two-thirds

of the human race died. Their time was over, and the time of the Hybrid began. The few Hybrid that

escaped the slaughter of the humans, toke over. They showed their humanity by not destroying the

remaining humans, but they did help them rebuild society. All over the world, Hybrid and humans were

trying to rebuild the planet. Humans tried only once to retake control, the attempt failed. By the time the

humans had gathered enough people to fight, the Hybrid had multiplied. They had sex like the animals they

were, especially the ones that were part rabbit. Plus, the fighting exhausted the remaining ammunition to the

majority of weapons. The humans were over powered once their guns were useless, as the Hybrid were

experts at guerilla warfare. And the Hybrid have been in control ever since.

That brings me back to now. It has been almost one hundred years since the Hybrid gained their

dominance of the planet, and things were calm. Both humans and Hybrid lived together, in peace. With no

surviving technology after the bombs, life had become much simpler. They even started to interbreed.

Which resulted in Hybrid like me. Not human, but not Hybrid. My mother said I was special. I am

approximately 18 years old. I say approximately, because Hybrid age differently then humans. I am scrawny

compared to others my age, which is bad. I am small in in the muscle department, but I make up for it with

my mind. I manage to think my way out of situations that would otherwise get me hurt. There are reasons

other then my size that get me into trouble, such as my coloring. I have a light blond fur coat, topped off

with a fiery red patch on the top of my head. Odd because feline types like me do not usually patch. This

draws attention, as I stick out like a sore thumb.

“ Treze, are you staring at the sky again?” a voice said, forcing me to look around. I saw one of my

few friends. A female named Arianna, I called her Ari. She is a feline type like me, but that is where most of

the similarities end. She is well liked, for one thing. Her coat is the same all over her body, from what I

have seen anyway. She also is the only one that does not pick on me, rather she defends me. That does not

help many problems, but the sentiment is nice.

“ No, just thinking. What are you doing out here?”

“ Looking for you. Your mother is looking for you, she sent me to look for you.” she said, sitting

on the ground next to me.

“ Oh, putting another notch on the suck-up poll?”

“ Ha-ha.” she shoved me.

“ Wouldn’t put it pass you. Guess I better get going, you coming?” I asked getting up.

“ Sure, you think I could stay over for dinner?”
“ Not up to me, you know that.”

“ True, think you could ask for me?”

“ Why can’t you?”

“ I don’t know, it feels funny.”

“ Since when? You ask all the time. You told my mother that she is a better cook then your

mother.”

“ Well….I don’t want to this time.”

“ Whatever, fine I’ll ask. She’ll probably say yes anyway.”

We walked in the direction of my home, Ari knew the way by heart. She was constantly over at my

mother’s house. I do not think that she liked being around her parents. She does not like to talk about it. She

seemed to relax when she was nowhere near her parents. She was like the daughter my mother never had.

My mother just loves it when she is over. They do their girl things, while I get exiled from whatever room

they are both in. Ari and I were talking about what dinner could possibly be, judging from the smell, when

we got to the door.

“ There you are, Treze. Well, I take it you found him, Ari?” my mother asked.

“ Yes I did, ma’am.” Ari answered.

“ You are going to have to show me his hiding spot.”

“ If she did that, it wouldn’t be much of a hiding spot. Can Ari stay for dinner?” I chimed in.

“ Of course she can. And Ari, please don’t call me ma’ma.” my mother said.

“ Sorry Kara, bad habit.” Ari said.

“ And you know that you don’t need to ask permission to stay for a meal, you’re always welcome.”

“ That’s what I said.” I stated, plopping into a chair.

“ Dinner will be done in a few minutes. I’m making boar, with a side of snake.”

“ My favorite! What‘s the occasion?” I asked.

“ No occasion, just felt like a boar night. Is that alright with you?”

“ Sure. How about with you Ari?” I said.

“ Yeah, that sounds good.”

“ Good, you two go to the table. I’ll get the food.”
Chapter Two

We had a nice meal, the boar was a bit dry, but still good. The snake was wonderful, though

stringy. Ari enjoyed every the meal, laughing at all my mother’s jokes. Most of which were at my expense.

When I said something, both women got quiet. Then they went back to their conversation, only

acknowledging me when I was the subject of whatever was said. I just kept my mouth shut, and tried to tune

out the insanity. I was just about to completely zone out, when I saw Ari’s head snap towards the door. Her

senses were a bit more acute then mine, so I assumed that she sensed somebody coming. Just I was about to

ask her what was wrong, I got my answer. There was a banging on the door, and I saw Ari’s face contort in

horror. My mother went to answer the door, Ari’s claws dug into the table.

“ Hello?” my mother asked as she opened the door.

“ Is my no good daughter here?” asked an angry voice.

“ Yes, she is Charles, but you need to calm down.” my mother answered.

“ Don’t tell me what to do human. Come here Arianna, NOW!” Charles commanded.

“ Arianna, stay here.” I whispered to Ari as I stood up.

“ What are you doing? He’s twice your size.” she asked.

“ Arianna is going to finish her meal, she’ll come home when she is finished.” I told Charles.

“ Hybrood, you better sit back down and shut up. Arianna, get over here.”

“ No.” it’s all I could say, I was afraid.

“ Treze, be quiet. Ari, it was nice having you over.” my mother spoke up.

“ Thank you Kara, I’ll see you tomorrow Treze.” Ari said, going over to Charles.

“ Ari….” I whispered. She looked at me, tears in her eyes. Then she walked out with Charles, who

was her father by the way.

“ How could you just let her go? Even I don’t know what happens at her house, let alone when the

male is angry. She was scared.”

“ I’m sorry Treze, but trying to argue would have only made things worse, and there isn’t much

that you could have done. He would have overpowered you without much effort.” my mother explained.

“ I’m going to bed. Thanks for dinner.” I walked off.
I was mad, I just did not know what I was mad at. My mother was right, I was no match for

Charles, but still could have tried. I hated the term, Hybrood. It is a word used to describe half-bloods like

me. I was worried about Ari, afraid of what might be happening to her. She looked at me in such a way that

my heart hurt. I had never seen her like that, she was always all smiles when around my mother and I. I had

A habit of scratching at a wooden post I had in my room when I was upset, there was a pile of splinters two

inches deep before I calmed down enough to attempt sleep. I had just laid down, when I heard taps on my

window. When I went to investigate, I fell on my butt in shock. She had barely anything on.

I opened the window, “ What are you doing here? Do you know what time it is?”

“ Late, and please let me in.”

“ Ari…Of course, come in. is everything all right?” there was a knock on my door.

“ Open up, I know she is here.”

“ I swear, I don’t know why she is here.” I said in my defense, after I opened the door.

“ I do. Ari, do you want him to leave the room?”

“ No.”

“ Why should I anyway, it’s my room. Ari, you’re bleeding.”

“ I know. Treze, can you please get some bandages?” Ari asked.

“ Sure. Can I come back?”

“ Yeah, I want you to sit next to me.”

“ I’ll be right back.”

I came back to my room, and saw Ari crying on my other’s shoulder. I gave them the bandages,

and watched as they were applied. I saw a sadness in her face, one that made me boil with anger. I walked

to my post, and dug my half-blood claws into the wood. It was all I could do. I felt like I would explode if I

did not find a way to release the pent up anger. Ari was talking to my mother, but I was not listening. I was

lost in a red haze, when I felt a hand touch my arm. It was Ari.

“ Treze, I should tell you why I don’t like to talk about my home life with you. But I am afraid of

how you’ll take it. I’ve talked to your mother about everything, she’s been a big help.”

“ What? “ I snapped.

“ Treze, cool off. She’s trying to open up to you.” my mother said.
“ Treze, you saw how scared I was earlier right?”

“ Yes.”

“ Well, it was because I didn’t want to go home.”

“ Why not? That doesn’t tell me anything.”

“ Treze!” my mother yelled.

“ It’s okay Kara. He has a right to act that way.”

“ Ari, does he hurt you? That’s all I want to know.”

“ Treze…Yes, he does.”

“ That’s all I need to know.”

“ Treze, what are you thinking?” my mother asked.

“ Nothing at the moment.”

“ Your not going to do anything. He will kill you.” Ari said.

“ Treze, relax. Don’t.” my mother said.

“ Don’t what? I can’t do anything remember.” I punched the post, it cracked.

“ It’s times like this when you look like your father.”

“ Goody for me, how does that help?” I did not care who I was talking too.

“ It doesn’t, but it does give me an idea.” my mother stated.

“ What?” I said.

“ I’m still friends with a Hybrid up north. He makes young Hybrid into fighters, not that I want a

fighter for a son. “

“ If it helps me be able to defend Ari, I’ll do it.”

“ Wait, where did this whole chivalry thing come from?” Ari asked.

“ Always been there, I suspect Ari. He just needed some encouragement. Treze, I’ll contact him

tomorrow if you want me too.” my mother said.

“ Do it. Ari, I want to protect you. If going off to train helps me accomplish that, I’m going to do

it.”

“ Treze. I’ll miss you.” Ari whispered.

“ You won’t have to miss him until he leaves. And you are not going home tonight, you’ll stay here. Just not in this room. Go to my bedroom, and get warm. You two can talk in the morning.”

The next morning, we all had breakfast while we talked about what was said the night before.

Ari, did not like that I was so willing to leave to go train. She did not want me to go away, I was her

support. After my decision was made, Ari and I left the house while a letter was written to the Hybrid I

would train with. Without technology, there are no phones. I figured a week to get there, and a week to get a

reply. We walked to my hiding place. It was a safe place to sit, and beautiful. It was near a pond, and early

in the day it was a clear blue. But I was not looking at the water, I was watching Ari. She had not told me

the extent of her injures, but she was limping. Then she flinched when she sat down. When she caught me

starring, she smirked. Then, she leaned against me as we sat in silence.

A week and a half later, we finally got a reply back from the Hybrid up north. His name was Rex,

and he agreed to train me. I needed to be there in less then two weeks, so I needed to leave the next day. I

was not the fastest, and it was a long trip. For the rest of the day, Ari was attached to my arm. She was to

spend as much time as possible with my mother while I was gone. Hopefully, she could hold on until I came

back. My mother would do everything she could for Ari, but she could not protect her from her father. I told

Ari she could write me, if that would help. I packed up my clothes along with a few things I felt would curb

home sickness. Ari would not go home to get anything, but she wanted to give me something. She gave me

a kiss, our first. That is all I would allow, I needed to get going early. I did not need anymore distractions.

Morning came, “ Treze, be careful.” my mother said, hugging me.

“ I will. And I’ll come back an adult.”

“ Not too adult, I hope.” Ari said, also hugging me.

“ Okay, just a little adult.” I chuckled, “ Ari, be safe.”

“ I’ll try.”

“ Keep her safe mother, I got plans for her.” as I said this, my mother looked at Ari, who in turn looked at me in confusion. I knew my mother had figured out my meaning.

“ Message received, you better get going. You’re burning day light.”

“ Alright then, I’m off. I plan to see you two when I come back. Good bye.”

“ Bye, I’ll write.” Ari shouted as I ran off.

“ Be safe my son.” my mother said.

Chapter Three

I was gone, training for two years, and now I was returning home without telling anyone. I wanted

to surprise both my mother, Kara, and Arianna. I had physically changed, bulking up but maintaining a tight

body. I felt like a new Hybrid, or Hybrood as it were. I could only imagine that this is what a full-blooded

Hybrid feel like. I felt powerful, much different then before. I had a well defined muscle structure, I must

have looked like a typical Hybrid male. I had an extra kick in my step, as I had not seen anybody besides

my teacher for two years. And I was excited. Where I was nervous about leaving everyone I loved, I was

now nervous about seeing them again. The nervousness only got worse when I saw the edge of town. I

forgot my nerves when I saw a female coming towards me. She was vaguely familiar, and being chased by

an older male. She got to where I was standing and ducked behind me.

“ Move boy! Don’t get between me and that female.” the old male demanded.

He to was vaguely familiar. “ Do I know you?” I asked.

“ I doubt it. I’ve never see a male like you. Now move!”

“ I swear I’ve met you somewhere. Did you have a daughter?”

“ Who do you think is behind you? I wouldn’t chase a strange female her age.”

“ What’s her name?”

“ Tell him your name!” he directed to the female hiding behind me.

“ Arianna. My name is Arianna. Please help me. He wants to hurt me.” she said shyly.

“ Hm. You’ve grown up Ari.” I said, turning around.

“ Treze, is that you?” Ari, asked, mouth wide open.

“ This is not that boy you knew years ago. He was a weakling and scrawny, this one isn’t.”

The old male spoke.

“ You are right, I am not a weakling. At least, not anymore. Charles, I suggest you back off for

now.” Ari’s eyes got real wide.

“ You can not be that boy.” Charles said.

“ Why not? Because I am different. I changed, and for the better. So, as I said. Back off.”

“ Fine, but you can’t protect her all the time.” he turned and walked away, grumbling all the way.

“ Treze….” Ari fainted.

I carried Ari to my former home. I felt I had been in town too long, and it was time to go home. Ari

was unconscious when I knocked on the door. I heard her coming to the door, it opened. She looked at me,

not quite sure who she was looking at. I could tell when it dawned on her who I was, her eyes got real wide.

Then she looked at Ari, who was still in my arms. My mother grabbed my arm, and rushed me inside. She

had me place Ari on a couch, while she was in another room. All I heard was a bunch of rumbling around.

She came back, with water. She sat me down in a chair, and dumped a glass of water in Ari’s face. I had

never seen her move so fast.

“ What did you do that for?” Ari was not looking at me.

“ For two years, all you do is worry about what Treze is doing and where is he. Well, he is right

here.” my mother pointed at me.

“ Treze!” Ari shouted, she got up and jumped into my lap.

“ What’s up Ari? You been good?” I asked.

“ I missed you so much, things haven’t been the same around here.”

“ I can see that. You haven’t changed much.”

“ Can’t say the same about you. Jeez, you look….Wow.”

“ Ari, relax. So Treze, how was your training?” my mother spoke up.

“ It was hard at first, but eventually I got the hang of things. Every time I advanced though, the

difficulty increased. Teacher was a good person, like the father I didn’t have.” I explained.

“ That’s good. Ari, get off of him. He’s been on a long journey, let rest before you start bothering

him.” my mother said.

“ No. You can’t make me.”

“ Mother, let her be. I saved her from her father. She didn’t even recognize me until I said

something.”

“ Is that true Ari? What did he want to do?” my mother asked.

“ I don’t know, and I don’t want to. Kara, can you let us be alone?” Ari asked softly.

“ I suppose so. But no hanky panky in here. This room is clean.” and with that, she walked out of the room.

“Ari, why did you ask her to leave? She’s my mother, I haven’t talked to her in a long time.”

“ Treze, I wanted to talk to you in private. It’s personal.”

“ So?”

“ Treze, my father wants to mate with me. Kara doesn’t know, and I don’t want her to.”

“ Mate with you? What about your mother?”

“ She left last year. And he thinks he can do whatever he wants with me. Treze, I want to mate with

you. Not my father.”

“ Slow down Ari, I am not ready to mate with anybody. But then again, I am not denying the idea.

Just not now.”

“ I’m not saying now. I’ve been saving myself for you. And believe me, the males have tried to get

my attention.”

“ They have they. Well, I’m back. Ari, I thought I asked you to spend as much time as possible

with my mother. It was to help protect you and someone for you to talk to.”

“ I did, for about a week. Treze, she was driving me nuts. I couldn’t take the endless questions

anymore. So, I started going to our spot and watched the sky. You know, like you used too.”

“ I understand Ari. I lived with her. You filled out nicely.”

She stood up and spun around, “ You think so.”

“ Yeah, seems I’m not the only one to grow up. Makes sense that the males want you”

“ But they can’t have me, I’m yours. Or, at least I will be.” she sat back on my lap. Then she

started moving her hips.

“ Ari, no. Not here, not now.”

“ Then lets go to your old room. Please Treze. Even some of the human females have mated by our

age. And I don’t want to wait anymore. I’m tired of ignoring these urges.”

“ We’re not human.“ it was all I could say. I was being distracted by her movements.

“ Treze, can I see you for a minute?” my mother yelled from another room.

“ Be there in a minute.” I pushed Ari off, and went to my mother, “ What?”

“ Don’t be stupid. Be with her.”
“ What?”

“ Go be with her. And don’t fight it.”

“ But….”

“ Don’t argue either.” she shooed me out and into my room. Then she went to get Ari. Who was

then pushed into the room as well. I heard the door be locked from the outside.

“ Guess she want’s this to happen as well.” I whispered to my self.

“ Treze. Don’t reject me.” Ari said, taking off her shirt.

“ Ari, slow down.”

“ No, we barely kissed before you left. And I know that shocked you. But I had been waiting for

you to kiss me before. I decided, that when you came back, I was done waiting. We do what I want, at my

speed for once. Now sit down.”

“ Yes sir.” I sat down.

Ari sauntered toward me, swaying her hips very seductively. I could not ignore the reaction this

vision was having on me. I started to remove my shirt, causing her to gasp. She approached me, undoing her

bottoms. When I tried to do the same, she stopped me. Standing inches in front of my face, she undid my

pants. Then, she pulled them off. She gained a mischievous smile, then pushed me onto my back. She

climbed on top of me, and straddled me hips. She looked me in the eye, and impaled herself on me in one

swift motion. What a feeling that was. She had saved herself, but I had been saved to her too. She let out a

scream when she bottomed out, but she also started rocking herself back and forth. Then, with my help, she

started hopping up and down. She was a glorious sight. She was glistening, and her breasts were bouncing

with her motions. Only in my imagination had I seen this kind of thing, and the real thing surpasses by far.

This was our first time, so it did not last very long. 15 minutes after we started, it all came to a dynamic

ending. She collapsed onto my chest, and my arms fell to my side. She let me go, and laid back down

against my side.

“ Ari, that was incredible!”

“ Yeah, it was. We’ll have to do it again.”

“ For sure, but can it wait?”

“ Yes, this is nice too. We never just did this either.” she said, as she wrapped her arm and tail around me.

“ Ari, I don’t want to be a parent. At least not yet.”

“ Don’t worry, me and Kara had this all planned out. We toke precautions. We won’t have any

cubs until we’re ready.” she smiled.

“ Okay.” I said, wrapping my left arm around her waist.

“ Treze, tell me some stories you heard while you were off training.”

“ If you want, let’s see. Oh, I got one. There is a rumor about a creature unlike anything anyone has

ever seen. They called it a Chimera. It’s a killer, and it liked hunting down Hybrid. I roams the north lands,

picking off lost members of hunting parties. It seems that it doesn’t eat it’s victim, just bites their necks. The

victims appear to bleed to death from the bite, and the creature has never been seen.”

“ That is a really bad post-sex story. Anything a bit more soft?”

“ No, not really.”

“ Okay, then let’s just take a nap. Your mother will open the door in the morning. And she’ll want

details about tonight.

“ Fine, but you can tell her, I’m going to reacquaint myself with this town.”

“ Deal.” and with that she curled in even tighter to my body and started falling asleep.

Chapter Four

For the next month, Ari and I were inseparable. Except for when I would sneak away to my

hiding spot. Of course, upon returning home, I was nearly deafened from the lectures from both my mother

and Ari. I had met with Ari’s father many times since my return, always ending in insults and threats. Every

time, he made sure to call me a Hybrood. That term did not effect me anymore, I was proud of what I was.

Ari was always jumpy, even when it was just us in our little spot. She always watched me as I trained. I

needed to train everyday. It helped me maintain my well developed body, as well as pass the time. I tried to

get her to participate, but she never made it through the whole routine. A few Hybrood joined in, I had

become a role model among them. It made me few proud, it irritated Ari. One day, she asked me about it.

“ Treze, why do you let them train with them with you?”

“ Because training is made easier when it’s in a group. Plus, it makes them feel better.”

“ But these guys barely talked to you when you were scrawny. Why help them?”

“ I don’t know. I wouldn’t even think about it if you’d train with me. But you can’t, or won’t. So,

I’ll let whoever join in.” she gave me a dirty look.

“ Treze, I can’t. I told you that. I can’t keep up.”

“ Okay, didn’t say you had too. What’s your problem with these guys anyway? They don’t even

ask about you.” I was putting away my towel, not even looking at her anymore.

“ I don’t have a problem with them. I’m starting to have one with you though.”

“ What?” I looked at her, in total confusion.

“ Treze, your mother hasn’t talked to you has she?”

“ Not since before breakfast. I made myself some breakfast and went for a walk. Just like I’ve been

doing everyday for the last three weeks. Why?”

“ I asked her to talk to you about something.”

“ You could talk to me about whatever the issue is. After all, you’re here and she isn’t.”

“ I can’t, not yet anyway.”

“ Ari, is there something wrong? Should I be worrying at this point?”

“ No.”

“ Well okay then. I’m going to the pond for a swim. If you want to join me, that’s where I’ll be.”

“Yeah. I’m going to talk to your mother.”

I did as I said, I went swimming. As there was no immediate reason to stay, there was no reason

not to. I needed a good dip in the cool, clear water. It helped clear my mind and cleanse my soul. I let my

ego inflate as I thought about the Hybrood that idolized me. It felt good. After an hour, I laid myself out on

the shore. The warm sun warmed and dried my blond fur. I put a piece of grass in my teeth, and relaxed in

the warmth of the day. I was just drifting off, when a rock hit my head.

“ What in the world!?’ I jumped up.

“ Treze, what did you say to Ari? She is extremely upset, and has locked herself in the bedroom.”

“ I didn’t say anything. I asked her what her problem was, and what you were supposed to talk to

me about. But other then that, I said nothing.” I made sure to look right at my mother, to show that I was serious.

“ She wouldn’t tell you?” she tilted her head.

“ Tell me what? What is going on? I go for a swim and suddenly I’m a bad guy.”

“ I told her you wouldn’t figure it out. Your sense of smell isn’t as acute as a Hybrid’s. You’re

answer is in her scent.“

“ That’s the problem! I can’t detect something in her scent? I’ve never been good at that stuff. My

body changed while I was away, not my blood or genetics. I thought Ari understood that.”

“ She does, but you are one of the few that doesn’t know what’s bothering her. One of the few

Hybrood anyway, even the human females know what’s going on.”

“ Whatever.”

“ Treze, she’s pregnant. And she’s scared about how you’ll take it.”

“ She was taking precautions. There must a mistake.”

“ I didn’t take into account her Hybrid hormones. Essentially, they are the same as a human. But

there seems to be a few unknown differences. Treze, she is confused.”

“ She’s confused!! Mother, I told her that I didn’t want children yet.”

“ You relax! You can’t always plan on when you have kids Treze. Maybe it’s a good thing.”

“ Pregnant. If her father catches a whiff, she’s dead. No wonder she didn’t like all those males

around. Word spreads.”

“ You better get home, she’s there alone.”

“ I’m going. Thanks for telling me. Her behavior makes sense now.” I ran off.

I ran all the way home. I did not have any idea what I would say. Maybe I would not say anything.

I detested my defects as a Hybrood. Had I been a full-blooded Hybrid, I would not have been in the dark

about Ari’s scent. I got an eerie feeling as the house came into view. The front door was open, which my

mother would not have left. I pushed my running even faster, trying to get to the house before anything

happened. I got to the door, and saw Charles. He had Arianna by the throat. I rushed in and caught him

across the face with my fist.

Ari was dropped, but was out of breath. She could not back away. A problem, since now I would

need to defend myself against her father. I had never actually fought him, though we had come close may times. There was no avoiding it this time. I saw an evil look in appear on Charles’ face. I watched his

muscles tense. My training had taught me what to look for in a fight. Even with training, fighting a ticked

off Hybrid would be difficult. He proved that, by connecting with my abdomen with his knee. He thought he

had won with that one hit, he was wrong. I put my hands together and swung them done like a

sledgehammer, hitting him on his right shoulder. It must have broken it, because he stepped back howling in

pain. I toke the chance, and put my hand around his throat. For the first time, he was the weaker one. His

injury was proof of that. His pride was smashed. I released him.

“ Charles, I may not be genetically pure like you, but I know Hybrid law. You are not to touch

Arianna again. If you do, and she didn’t want you to, you will die.” I stated, standing tall.

“ You half-blood. How do you know that law?”

“ My teacher. Now leave, and never come back. Arianna is my female. And rest assured, she will

be taken care of to the best of my abilities.”

“ You, a Hybrood, dare tell me what to do? I am the strongest in this town. I orders from no

Hybrid.”

“ I’m not a Hybrid. I am a Hybrood, and I am proud of that. Leave!” he looked

at my eyes, and made his way out of the house.

“ Treze? What came over you?” Ari asked after her father had walked out.

“ I don’t know, maybe it was instinct.” I said, helping her off the floor.

“ You claimed me.”

“ I guess I did. All well. How are you?”

“ I’m fine, just sore.”

“ Is the child all right?” I placed my hand on her belly.

“ I think it is okay. Wait, you know?”

“ She told me. She said that our protection didn’t work.”

“ It guess not. I’m sorry I didn’t tell you.”

“ I understand why you didn’t, but you still could have told me.”

“ I just guess I needed to assess this situation.”

“ Did you?”
“ Yes, and I want to keep this kitten.”

“ Kitten?”

“ We both have feline blood, kitten is the right word.”

“ Okay. I think it’s the first to have a Hybrood father and Hybrid mother.”

“ We’re going to be parents. Treze, we need a place of our own.”

“ I’ll get looking tomorrow.
