Goodbye Superman.... Matt's Picks for September 17, 2008

Hi!
Some good stuff, and some Very Good stuff!

Dead Space #6 – more nasty Ben Templesmith art in the final issue of Bad Stuff in Space; pretty standard story, with rotting corpses…terrificly (both in the sense of excellent, and of terror) illustration.
Conan the Cimmerian #3 - comics’ one true (fictional) biography, well told, well shown.
Indiana Jones & Tomb of the Gods 2 – guilty pleasure, also well told, and well illustrated.
Billy Batson, Shazam 2 - Captain Marvel for kids, cartoony but excellently so, by Hero-bear’s Mike Kunkle.
Air #2 - still hoping this goes somewhere, after a…confusing, if nice to look at, first issue.
The Spirit 21 – just the tops; almost (almost) as good as Usagi Yojimbo. Give it another 100 issues (Usagi’s waaay past that!).
Donald Duck Halloween Special – a slender and very low-priced (was it 25 for $2.50?) little comic just right for the big Give-away Night.
All Star Superman 12 - sorrow, much sorrow: this really excellent series ends with this issue. Absolutely worth seeking in the collected edition. Superman as I’ve wanted to read him since long long ago I was a child and Superman was GREAT! This—is GREAT Superman!
Castle Waiting 12 $4 – more daily life in long-ago fairytale land; daily life full of chores, and pleasantries: "Fables" in a more relaxed setting, Very Well told, Very Well drawn, by Linda Medley.
Echo 6 $3.50 - still hoping this goes somewhere…after five(!) set-up issues; by Strangers in Paradise’s Terry Moore, so there’s hope!

May your budget ever be bigger than mine!
best wishes for great reading,
Matt
